Concept:
I started this project in the early part of 2018. It bothered me that the tendency to interpret media images as if they can in a literal sense be 'read' happens so often.
Certain family photos especially my mother's compelled me to consider possible narratives behind the picture and reconstructing selected images using my own portrait has been a way for me to enter that perceptual gap.
This project uses photography and performance to recreate that environment.
This image: Passport photo circa 1965 (the year I was born)...reconstructed...
historically passport photos in the 1960's reflected a brief period of portraiture (reviving a historic tradition)...the subject is angled to the lens and looking off-camera...
