If you've ever lost your way, you may have needed a map. As if that would even help to determine your next course of action. You may also need a tarot to decipher the divinations, because where Marie Yoho Dorsey is going, there are no roads. A conventional roadmap would prove useless for probing deep into the psyche of humankind. It is easy to get lost, but when we lose ourselves is when we find the potential to discover who we truly are. There is Life that cannot be predicted, through twists and turns, unexpected events, untold consequences which weave a story of a person's life, of their interactions, of their inherent trajectory. Some believe it is written, foretold, "destiny". That is not the case. Something as magical as Life cannot be a destiny. Something as beautiful as a life cannot be foretold. So many interactions at play, so many potentials. So many combinations and possibilities. You truly need a celestial map to guide your way. That is precisely what Marie Yoho Dorsey is providing us in this latest series of prints. If you know how to read the symbology, or if you are an alien being, you might understand this language. Or, if you open your heart and open your mind to unconventional ways and patterns of thought, explorations of emotion....then you might find light. You may find hope. You may find calm and peace that the greater whole and good, and sense of purpose, actually is lying within each of us.
"Recitations" - the latest series of multimodal etchings on copper plate by m. Yoho Dorsey carried out between St. Petersburg, FL and Buffalo, NY, 2022.
